Students in Julie Walsh’s Child Development class at Poland Seminary High School read a story to students at Dobbins Elementary Nov. 16.

After the story, the high school students, under the observation of Walsh, led their classes in a fall craft that included tracing leaf patterns on paper.

“There were 23 students that participated in the planning and preparations for the lesson at Dobbins,” Walsh said. “A few of them were absent today, but they all put a lot of work into this project.”

Leading a lesson at Dobbins was practical for the high school students, as well. As part of the course, they had to demonstrate that they could effectively lead a class situation. The high school students had to give clear, understandable instructions and maintain a sense of order in the classroom. The Dobbins students enjoyed working with the high school students as well, particularly the leaf craft.

Walsh also offers courses in safe and healthy foods, healthy living and managing transitions at Poland.
