Girls soccer team makes history

Neighbors | Submitted.The Canfield High School girls varsity soccer team received the titles of AAC Champions, District Champions and Regional Finalists for their 2012 season. The Canfield varsity girls soccer team recently completed one of the best seasons in school history, winning AAC and District titles and advancing to the Regional finals for the first time.

The Cards also received the Team Academic Award from the Ohio High School Scholastic Coaches Association and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Girls soccer head coach Phil Simone was also named the Girls Division II Youngstown Coach of the Year and the Ohio Division II Public School Coach of the Year.

The team tied its single-season shutout record of 12 in a row and had a consecutive shutout streak of eight games in a row. The squad was undefeated at home and had the most goals (94) in a single season in school history.
