Girard school board seeks a new member

GIRARD

The departure of a school board member has created an open seat for the community to fill.

The board of education accepted the resignation of Bill Bell during a monthly meeting Wednesday. Richard Rees, board president, said Bell was in the first year of his second term and his resignation became effective Friday.

“I believe I have been able to contribute in a positive manner to the growth and achievement of our district,” Bell said in a statement. “It is truly with much regret that I am resigning, but I want to provide myself the opportunity to be part of the district’s administrative team in the future.”

Rees said anyone interested in the position should complete a written application at the Girard Board of Education offices at 704 E. Prospect St., by Dec. 10. He said candidates must be a resident of the district and a registered voter.

The newly appointed member will serve during 2013, but must run for election in November 2013, said Rees. He said if they wish to continue on the board, the candidate must remain for two years of the unexpired term.

Rees said the board is hoping to announce a replacement during a Dec. 19 meeting.
