Barko to offer new works at event

The Butler Institute of American Art’s annual holiday craft show will be this weekend. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $5, with children under 12 free.

After a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan, local artist and Air Force Reserve officer Bob Barko Jr. is back in Youngstown with his latest work — a collection of 10 pencil-drawing prints. Titled “The Century Collection 2012,” the prints will be on sale at the Butler show this weekend.

The collection features local and regional landmarks including the Boardman Park bandstand, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Fairport Harbor Lighthouse, Canfield’s Loghurst Home, the Mahoning County Courthouse, the McKinley Memorial in Niles, Mill Creek Park’s Gazebo, Put-In-Bay’s Perry’s Victory Memorial, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton and Stambaugh Auditorium.

Each 5-by-7-inch print retails for $5. A set of the six Mahoning Valley landmarks is available for $30. The artist’s framed, signed and numbered original drawings of the images may also be purchased at the show.

Prints of Barko’s other works will also be available at the Butler show, which will be the only public display and sale of his work for the 2012 holiday season.
