$3M bond for Ohio man in officer-involved shooting

CINCINNATI (AP) — A Cincinnati man who police say fled from a police-involved shooting that left one man killed by an officer and another wounded has been charged with murder and other counts.

Bail was set at $3 million today for 22-year-old Gerry Branner, of Cincinnati. His attorney says Branner pleaded not guilty to charges including murder, trafficking in heroin and felonious assault.

Authorities say the shootings occurred Nov. 21 after police chased a car after an undercover drug deal. Police say Officer Orlando Smith fatally shot 19-year-old Dontez O’Neal after O’Neal fired at Smith from the car. Another man was wounded and a third fled. Smith wasn’t injured.

Branner’s attorney says Branner didn’t shoot anyone and should not have been charged.

Authorities allege Branner’s actions contributed to O’Neal’s death.
