POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Nov. 21

Arrest: A traffic stop near Western Reserve and North Lima roads resulted in the arrest of 65-year-old David L. Logero, 8550 Ivy Hills Drive, Poland, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Nov. 22

Drugs: Police on state Route 170 pulled over and cited 42-year-old Stephen A. Braho on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana. Braho, of 87 Bassett Lane, Youngstown, had a suspected marijuana pipe and 3 grams of suspected marijuana, a report showed.

BOARDMAN

Nov. 21

Theft: Two wheels were removed from a vehicle at Preston Hyundai, 7554 Market St.

Trespassing: Officers responded to an unwanted person at the Southern Park Mall before charging 59-year-old Joseph L. Batovsky, 850 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, with criminal trespassing. Batovsky asked a woman for money near the food-court area, in violation of a 2007 criminal-trespassing warning to stay off mall property, a report said.

Domestic violence: Police signed a charge against 41-year-old Michael D. O’Diam, 151 Woodland Run Drive, Canfield, after his girlfriend alleged O’Diam had threatened her at her place of employment on McClurg Road. O’Diam also has two domestic-violence convictions, authorities said.

Theft: A $50 trash can was taken from a home in the 400 block of Brookfield Avenue.

Criminal damaging: Fourteen wooden fence slats were damaged in the 200 block of Shields Road.

Possible theft: A Yakata Dora Drive woman reported a $150 iPod device lost or stolen.

Theft: U.S. marshals in the 7200 block of Market Street handed to township police 28-year-old Jason R. Stiner, 727 Taylor St., Hubbard, who was wanted on misdemeanor charges of theft and child endangerment after a mid-October theft at Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall. One of the two men also entered the business with a toddler, a report showed.

Assault: A South Schenley Avenue woman alleged a neighbor struck her three times in the back of the head and neck during an argument about an entrance door having been left open.

Theft: A woman stole two pairs of shoes from Payless Shoesource, 48 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft by deception: Washingtonville police handed 31-year-old Matthew J. Sharp, 406 Honey Lane, Leetonia, to Boardman authorities. Sharp faced two misdemeanor counts of theft by deception after two South Avenue residents reported having given money to someone who claimed to be selling magazine subscriptions on behalf of Youngstown State University but who never returned.

Fraud: A Southern Boulevard woman reported a stolen check was cashed without permission at a Doral Drive business.

Harassment: A doctor at her township office said a patient posted disparaging comments via Facebook about the care she received, casting the accuser in an unflattering light.

Arrest: Youngstown police handed Jason P. Sitnic, 26, to township authorities. Sitnic, of 3322 Powers Way, Youngstown, was accused of stealing two tattoo after-care kits from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: Brandon C. Bame, 27, of 1007 Huey St., New Castle, Pa., was charged in the theft of three Sony PlayStation game controllers from Walmart.

Theft by deception: A Washington Boulevard man told police he was scammed of $280 when he tried to obtain a loan.

Nov. 22

Citation: A suspicious vehicle near Midlothian Boulevard and Shirley Road caught the attention of police, who cited 53-year-old John B. Genhart, 419 Maplewood Ave., Struthers, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 6300 block of Tara Drive cut the cords to two Christmas decorations.

Arrest: Police received a call about an unresponsive male in a restroom at a business in the 1700 block of Boardman-Poland Road before charging 21-year-old Franklin Broadhurst, 61 Wilhelm St., Struthers, with abusing a harmful intoxicant, a first-degree misdemeanor. Broadhust admitted having taken three or four puffs from an aerosol can to get high, a report said.

Citation: Officers responded to a driver who apparently had fallen asleep in a Boardman-Canfield Road fast-food restaurant’s drive-through before citing Joseph A. Consiglio III, 29, of 578 Creed St., Struthers, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Recovered property: A $500 computer was recovered after having been stolen from Best Buy, 561 Boardman-Poland Road.

Citation: A traffic stop on South Avenue led to an OVI charge against 28-year-old MelchisedecRodriguez, 217 S. Jackson St., Youngstown.

Nov. 23

Theft: A wallet and several other items were stolen from two vehicles in the 300 block of Afton Avenue.

Auto theft: A 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra was stolen in the 7400 block of West Boulevard.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a garage in the 4500 block of Southern Boulevard and took a $700 computer from a car inside.

Felonious assault: A Kiwana Drive man alleged his father-in-law had tried to stab him with a folding knife. The accuser was not injured, however.

Theft: A woman in her 40s stole a $75 pair of shoes from Payless Shoesource.

Assault/criminal damaging: Officers dealt with a fight at an Applewood Boulevard restaurant, where one person reported having been assaulted and another said one of the combatants had punched and broken his vehicle’s passenger-side mirror.

Arrests: A theft at a Southern Park Mall store led to a laundry list of charges against 19-year-old Shaquala A. Harmon, 1434 Willow Court, Youngstown, who was accused of stealing merchandise from the business, opening a cash drawer in an effort to remove money she claimed was owed her, assaulting a store employee and kicking two officers she struggled and refused to cooperate with. Harmon faced charges that included two counts of assault on a police officer and one each of simple assault, theft, attempted theft, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Also, authorities charged a Youngstown girl, 17, with obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Theft: A woman discovered a diamond pendant and a pair of silver earrings missing from her home in the 1300 block of Fox Run Court.

Criminal mischief: Several eggs and a tomato were tossed at a residence in the 5700 block of Rosewood Drive, damaging a portion of siding.

Theft: Austintown authorities turned 19-year-old Janiqua A. Hill, 629 Mabel St., Youngstown, over to Boardman police. Hill was accused in the theft of two pairs of leather boots from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Nov. 24

Theft: Two women in their late teens stole 10 items for babies from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Assault: A worker for a Southern Park Mall store reported having been punched on the right side of the head.

Theft: Isha M. Moss, 28, of 1438 E. Florida Ave., Youngstown, and 29-year-old Jennifer L. Mills, 987 Compass West Drive, Austintown, were charged with taking seven articles of clothing valued at $235 from Macy’s.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 5000 block of Glenwood Avenue was found with damage to its driver’s-side door lock. The estimate was $100.

Theft: Someone removed $70 from a car in the 5000 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Auto theft: A 1995 Saturn vehicle was stolen in the 400 block of Ewing Road.

Misuse of credit cards: A Cathy Ann Drive woman discovered her stolen cards were used without authorization at a Boardman-Poland Road store.

Nov. 25

Domestic violence: A 14-year-old township boy was charged with the crime after his mother alleged the teen had scratched her multiple times and struck her face during an argument about discipline problems regarding the boy.

Theft: Two women took $30 worth of candy and snack items from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Trespassing: A Bristlewood Drive man saw that his two vehicles had been ransacked.

Arrest: Police at a vehicular accident near Market Street charged Jeffrey D. Blanche, 37, of 7955 Market, North Lima, with obstructing justice, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle impaired after saying they had to use a stun gun because a highly agitated Blanche had yelled obscenities at other people nearby, impeded authorities’ investigation and refused several times to surrender.

Theft: Tequila L. Jackson, 19, of 840 Lakewood Ave., Youngstown, and a city girl, 15, were charged in the theft of $184 worth of clothing and shoes from Kmart. The girl was released to the custody of an uncle.

Theft: Two women in their 20s stole three $250 cellphones from Best Buy.

Burglary: To a residence in the 8500 block of Ivy Hills Drive through a rear door. Stolen was $350.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle’s driver’s-side door lock sustained $100 in damage in the 1300 block of Doral Drive.

Arrest: Police pulled over a vehicle in the 900 block of Boardman-Poland Road before taking into custody 30-year-old Robert Rivera, 23 W. Dewey Ave., Youngstown. He was wanted by Campbell authorities on a probation-violation charge.

Theft: Shakerra D. Harris, 20, of 707 Harbour Heights Ave., New Castle, Pa., was charged, accused of having stolen two shirts from JCPenney in Southern Park Mall.
