General Motors sales are anticipated to increase by 9 percent in November, which is a solid gain but less than the industry average for the month.

Truecar.com, an automotive information website, is projecting that GM will sell 196,575 vehicles this month. The company also anticipates an industrywide increase in sales of nearly 13 percent.

“Despite being below the industry average, this is still a strong sales month for GM,” said Jesse Toprak, senior analyst for TrueCar.com.

This is the first month in which sales figures for the Japanese companies are comparable because of all the disruptions to supply in 2011, he said.

Sales are expected to remain high through December as more customers try to replace vehicles damaged by superstorm Sandy, Toprak said.

“There are a lot of people who may not have received their insurance checks yet or may have wanted to buy a new car, but the inventory was not yet available,” he said.

Solid sales numbers are expected to continue into 2013, Toprak said.
