1987: Members of USW Local 7275 vote 106-61 to approve a contract with Wean Industries that will reduce the hourly wage by $1.67 to $10.889 per hour and include fringe benefit concessions equal to about another $3 per hour.

E.J. Keener, president and treasurer of Keener Motors, his wife, and his 91-year-old mother-in-law, Nettie Morris, escaped from an early morning fire that heavily damaged his home at 279 Crandall Ave. But Keener was mourning the death of his 11-year-old Welsh Corgi dog, Brythe, which died of asphyxiation.

1937: Downtown Youngs-town stores are jammed with shoppers and a survey of merchants shows spending is about the same as that for the corresponding Saturday in 1936.
