Warren man's trial to resume Tuesday

WARREN — Derrick L. Cobb, 50, of Difford Drive in Niles, went on trial today on charges of felonious assault and kidnapping of a woman in December 2011 at a home on Delaware Street Southwest.

If convicted, Cobb could get close to 20 years in prison. The jury trial resumes Tuesday in the courtroom of Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Warren police said they went to a home on Hamilton Street Southwest and found a 43-year-old Esther Avenue Northwest woman badly beaten.

She told police Cobb, her boyfriend, had accused her of cheating on him with another man, held a knife to her chest and threatened to kill her.

Over two hours, Cobb is accused of striking the woman in the face, arms, legs and torso repeatedly and stomping on her torso.
