MEN

No. 13 Missouri, VCU 65

PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS

Laurence Bowers had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Phil Pressey had 11 points and eight assists, leading Missouri in the third-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis. Pressey gave the Tigers (5-1) the lead for good with a 3-pointer with 1:17 to play. That capped a run of five straight possessions where the teams exchanged the lead. The Rams (3-3) turned the ball over with 57 seconds left. The Tigers called a timeout with 10 seconds left on the shot clock. Pressey took the inbounds, dribbled off a few seconds, then made a move to the basket where he ducked under a VCU player and hit a flip shot as the shot clock hit zero. Troy Daniels of VCU missed a 3 and the Tigers ran out the clock. The Tigers lost to No. 2 Louisville in the semifinals, when they committed 23 turnovers. They had 14 against VCU. Negus Webster-Chan and Keion Bell had 12 points apiece for Missouri.

No. 18 UNLV 82, Iowa State 70

LAS VEGAS

Freshman Anthony Bennett scored 22 points and UNLV beat Iowa State in the consolation game of the Global Sports Classic. UNLV (3-1) began to pull away late in the second half. After Will Clyburn’s tip-in at 7:24 cut Iowa State’s deficit to 57-54, the Rebels closed the game with a 25-16 run. Anthony Marshall added 16 points for the Rebels, and Mike Moser had 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Runnin’ Rebels used a pair of runs to seize momentum midway through the first half, but Iowa State (4-2) managed to stay close. Clyburn had 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Cyclones. Tyrus McGee added 12 points while Melvin Eljm scored 10.

WOMEN

No. 2 Connecticut 91, Purdue 57

ST. THOMAS, VIRGIN ISLANDS

Freshman Breanna Stewart scored 17 points to lead Connecticut to a rout of No. 14 Purdue and the championship of the Paradise Jam tournament. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 15 points for UConn (5-0), before leaving with just over 2 minutes left after taking what appeared to be an inadvertent elbow to the head. The Huskies had four players in double figures.

No. 6 Penn State 85, Cal State Northridge 73

LOS ANGELES

Nikki Greene scored 21 points and matched a career best with 20 rebounds, and Penn State overcame a 17-point first-half deficit to win the Cal State Northridge tournament. Maggie Lucas scored 14 of her 23 points in the first half for the Lady Lions (5-0). Alex Bentley added 19 points. Penn State held Northridge (3-2) scoreless for a 6:30 span over both halves to turn a 41-26 deficit into a 43-41 lead with 16:32 to play. The Matadors had gone on a 25-10 run to take a 33-16 lead in the first half. Marta Masoni had a career-best 22 points for Northridge. Ashlee Guay scored 15 and Camille Mahlknecht had 13 rebounds.

No. 13 Oklahoma 73, Arkansas 70

HONOLULU

Nicole Griffin scored a career-high 19 points and Whitney Hand added 14 points and nine rebounds for Oklahoma, which overcame a 30-point performance by Keira Peak. Morgan Hook had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Sooners (3-1), who led 26-19 at halftime. Griffin was 8 of 11 from the field. Peak was 12 for 19 from the field, including a 4-for-8 performance from 3-point range. Cali Berna added 16 points for the Razorbacks (3-1).

Virginia 73, No. 17 Vanderbilt 66

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO

Jazmin Pitts had a career-high 20 points to lead Virginia to the win in the first game of the San Juan Shootout. Sarah Imovbioh added 15 points and China Crosby had 13 for the Cavaliers (4-0). Pitts, a reserve, was 9 for 14 from the field.Virginia shot 68 percent in the first half and led 37-26 at the break. Christina Foggie scored 26 for Vanderbilt (3-2), which shot 36 percent from the field. Foggie was 8 for 17 from 3-point range, and the Commodores made 10 of 33 shots from beyond the arc overall.

No. 25 North Carolina 85, La Salle 55

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.

Waltiea Rolle had 15 points and 12 rebounds and North Carolina scored the first 16 points of the second half. Xylina McDaniel opened the second half with a jumper for the Tar Heels (5-0), who trailed 32-31 at halftime, then added a 3-pointer after a steal by Brittany Rountree. Krista Gross added a jumper and Rountree sank a 3-pointer for a 40-32 lead. Shanel Harrison scored 18 for La Salle.
