The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Diocese of Youngstown invites adults who work with middle school, high school and college-aged youths in a parish, school or club setting to participate in online classes being offered this winter.

The Component of Catechesis: Participants will be able to utilize the aims, principles, processes and methods of catechesis with youth in implementing faith formation. Sessions from Jan. 4-18, 2013.

The Dimension of Family and Community: Participants will be able to facilitate the development of community among youth, their families, and within the church and society, including the development of small faith communities by youth from different cultures, spiritualties, or pastoral models. Sessions from Feb. 1-22.

The Component of Evangelization: Participants will be able to invite youth into intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and empower them to live and witness as disciples in today’s world. Sessions from March 8-22.

Primary professor: Dr. Charlotte McCorquodale, who has a doctor of philosophy degree from the School of Human Resource Education and Workforce Development at Louisiana State University. She received the 2002 National Youth Ministry Award from the NFCYM for contributions nationally to the field of Catholic Youth Ministry. She has served in parish, school, diocesan and university ministry settings for the past 30 years. In May of 2000, Dr. McCorquodale co-founded Ministry Training Source, an organization committed to the education and formation of ministry leaders.

The programs: Based on the National Standards for Lay Ecclesial inistry Youth Ministry Specialization, this program consists of 12 modules that will provide tools for meaningful ministries for youth. The program is built sequentially, but students can start with almost any course.

Credit and fees: Each module is approved for 10 general hours by the Diocesan Office of Religious Education. Fees are $40 per module to include access to online materials, assistance with technology as needed and facilitation by Ministry Training Source-trained facilitators, plus $15 for a course book. For students seeking college credit, take 3 modules per semester to comprise a course for $110, plus tuition rates, plus $45 for course books.
