Pilot Oil Co. of Knoxville, Tenn., announces that it will build a $1 million service center on Salt Springs Road near I-80.

1972: The final count in the Trumbull County commissioner’s race shows Lyle Williams with 36,881, and incumbent Gary Thompson, 35,981, but Democratic members of the Board of Elections refuse to certify the results on the day before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Merv Teague, former Youngstown East High standout, will be at his tackle position when the Ohio State University Buckeyes take on Michigan in a Big Ten battle in Columbus.

1962: Charles “Cadillac Charlie” Cavallaro, 60, long-time Youngstown racketeer and an 11-year-old son are blown to bits and another son injured when a tremendous explosion rips the Cavallaro garage at 164 Roslyn Drive.

Liberty Township police capture two men suspected in a $151 armed robbery at Allen’s Drug Store on Gypsy Lane after they exit the store to find a flat tire on their getaway car. Police find the car in Colonial Drive and arrest one man when he returns to it with a tow truck.

A family of eight is left homeless on Thanks- giving after boys playing with matches spark a fire at 3451 Tangent St.

1937: Youngstown Mayor Lionel Evans goes on record as favoring parking meters for the downtown district, foreseeing a new source of municipal income and a possible solution to the traffic problem.

The first sledding accident in Youngstown this season results in severe injuries to 11-year-old Howard McDonald who was struck by a car while coasting near his Avondale Avenue home.
