Four Hilltop Elementary School students and two C.H. Campbell Elementary students were named winners in the Mahoning County Juvenile Court’s 12th annual poster contest. The contest, sponsored by Judge Theresa Dellick, carried the theme, ‘Be a Superhero: Soar into Education.’
Third- and fourth-grade students from across Mahoning County were invited to enter the contest.
C.H. Campbell Elementary School fourth-graders Lauren Jones and Emma Castronova were awarded third place and honorable mention, respectively, in the fourth-grade division.
This was the first year the best friends placed in the contest, and both stated art is their favorite class.
“We are really excited to be named winners in the poster contest. We worked on our posters together and were hoping we would both win,” Jones and Castronova said.
Hilltop Elementary School fourth-grade students Elianna Pacella, Grace Rosko and Kate Kadilak represented their school as winners in the fourth-grade contest, with Pacella taking first place, Rosko taking second place and Kadilak taking honorable mention. Third-grade student Griffin Littler placed fourth in his grade division.
The Hilltop students sent a couple shout-outs to their parents.
“I just want to say kudos to my mom because she encouraged me to enter the contest,” Rosko said.
“Thank you to my dad because he helped me with the face a little bit,” Littler said.
Artistic ability must run in the family for Pacella, as she stated her sister, who is now in seventh grade, was also a winner in the contest when she went to Hilltop.
All winners were honored by the court and Judge Dellick at an awards breakfast at the Embassy in Youngstown Nov. 8. Parents and school personnel were invited to attend and the posters were on display for the celebration.
The posters will be framed and displayed in the hallways of each winner’s respective elementary school.
