POLAND
Operation Santa Paws, under way through Dec. 17, is a drive by Shepherd of the Valley, spearheaded by its Poland community, to collect items for dogs, cats and other animals cared for by Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary in Salem, Animal Charity of Youngstown and The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County in Warren.
Donations are accepted at all Shepherd of the Valley locations including the Corporate Offices, Copper Zone Tanning at the Southern Park Mall and Pet Supplies Plus in Boardman.
On Dec. 5, there will be a pet blessing at Animal Charity led by Rev. Jim Brandis, Shepherd of the Valley Corporate Chaplain; and on Dec. 9 people can have a photo taken of their pet with Santa Claus at the Southern Park Mall. Bring a donation for Operation Santa Paws and receive a hand sanitizer.

Pulmonary care specialist
NEW CASTLE, PA.
Jameson Health System has added Dr. Rohit Mehta, board-certified internal medicine and pulmonary care specialist and critical-care intensivist, to its staff. He has received training in Pittsburgh, Chicago and Toronto.
Dr. Mehta is associated with JHS Pulmonary Care, 217 North Jefferson St. At Jameson Hospital, he diagnoses medical conditions and develops the plan of care and treatment strategy for patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Presidential Volunteer Service Awards will be presented Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Austintown Library on Raccoon Road. Honorees are:
The Fred Perry Family, who for the past 22 years have raised money for children locally through their annual motorcycle run; Mike Giffin, a 30-year volunteer for the American Cancer Society; and Jeanie Duffy a volunteer/ advocate for the elderly. Presenting the awards on the president’s behalf is state Rep. Ron Gerberry.

Surgeon relocation

Dr. Pablo Giuseppucci, general surgeon with Horizon Surgical Associates-UPMC, will relocate from his current office at Greenville Medical Center-UPMC to 428 S. Main St., Greenville, effective Dec. 3.
Home care for children in need
BOARDMAN
Akron Children’s Hospital is offering home-care services for children in need of specialized treatment in the Mahoning Valley. The Children’s Home Care Group provides in-home medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week for children facing an extended hospital stay.
Registered nurses, medical social workers and pharmacists provide services including palliative care, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, pain management, as well as home medical equipment. As an additional benefit to families, home care also can reduce the costs of treatment by as much as 80 percent when compared to in-hospital treatments.
