German police stop man with mobile office in car

BERLIN

Forget texting while driving. German police say they nabbed a driver who had wired his Ford station wagon with an entire mobile office.

Saarland state police said last week the 35-year-old man was pulled over for doing 80 mph in a 62 mph zone while passing a truck.

Built on a wooden frame on his passenger seat they found a laptop on a docking station tilted for easy driver access, a printer, router, wireless Internet stick, WLAN antenna and an inverter to power it all.

A navigation system and cellphone mounted to the windshield completed the array.

Since there was no evidence he used the office while moving, he got away with a $153 speeding ticket and a possible fine for having unsecured items in his car.

Suspected drunken driver hits Pittsburgh bakery

PITTSBURGH

It’s never a good time for a drunken driver to smash into a bakery, but it’s an even bigger problem when it happens just before Thanksgiving.

The Schorr Bakery in Pittsburgh was closed Tuesday due to the accident, though the family-owned bakery already has arranged for customers to pick up Tuesday’s holiday orders at another location in the suburb of West View.

Still, owner Jim Schorr says he expects the Pittsburgh location to reopen today, in time for other customers to pick up their last-minute holiday orders.

Police haven’t released the name of the driver but expect to charge him with drunken driving and perhaps other crimes.

The crash happened late Monday night.
