nba roundup | Monday’s games
Irving out four weeks: Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving will miss at least one month with a broken finger. The NBA’s reigning rookie of the year fractured his left index finger on Saturday against Dallas. The team initially said the finger was only bruised and he played against Philadelphia on Sunday, scoring a season-low 9 points as Cleveland dropped its sixth straight game. The Cavs said tests on Irving’s finger revealed a nondisplaced fracture. He will be out a month and re-evaluated in two weeks.
Pacers 96, Wizards 89
WASHINGTON
There were boos early and at the end for the winless Washington Wizards, who dropped to a franchise-worst 0-9. Indiana’s David West scored 13 of his season-best 30 points in the fourth quarter, and Roy Hibbert broke out of a slump with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Still without point guard John Wall, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft, and starting center Nene — and no one seems to be sure when either injured player will make his season debut — the Wizards are the only team in the NBA without a victory. They started 0-8 a year ago, the club’s previous worst opening to a season.
Bobcats 102, Bucks 98
CHARLOTTE, N.C.
Ramon Sessions scored nine of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, including two free throws with 4.2 seconds left to seal Charlotte’s win over Milwaukee. The Bobcats trailed by 11 in the fourth but battled back, going 16 of 16 from the free throw line down the stretch. Sessions’ two free throws after Monta Ellis missed a 3-point attempt sent the Bucks to their first road loss and lifted the surprising Bobcats (5-4) back above .500. Ellis scored 31 points for the Bucks. Kemba Walker and Byron Mullens each scored 19 points for the Bobcats.
Hawks 81, Magic 72
ATLANTA
Al Horford scored 15 points and Lou Williams added 14 to lead Atlanta to a win over struggling Orlando. Zaza Pachulia pulled down 10 rebounds in a reserve role for the Hawks, who have won two straight and three of four. Glen Davis was the only player to score in double figures with 11 points for the Magic, who have lost two straight and seven of eight.
Clippers 92, Spurs 87
SAN ANTONIO
Chris Paul had 19 points and eight assists and Los Angeles captured its second win against the Spurs. Matt Barnes added 14 points and Blake Griffin had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Clippers (8-2). Tim Duncan had 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Spurs (8-3), who suffered their second home loss this season.
Nuggets 97, Grizzlies 92
MEMPHIS, TENN.
Danilo Gallinari scored 26 points, including a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left, and the Denver Nuggets ended the Memphis Grizzlies’ win streak at eight games. JaVale McGee provided a second-half lift for Denver and finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Kenneth Faried added 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
