Sitting South on this deal from the Women’s KO Teams at the recent ACBL Summer North American Championships was Hjordis Eythorsdottir, formerly of Iceland. Her play of this slam helped her team win the event.

North’s two hearts was a transfer to spades. Four no trump was Roman Key-Card Blackwood, and five hearts showed two aces but no queen of trumps, and six spades became the final contract.

Declarer won the spade lead in hand and drew the remaining trump, then cashed the ace and king of diamonds before crossing to the king of clubs to take a heart discard on the queen of diamonds. Next came the queen of hearts, covered by the king and won with the ace. The ace of clubs was cashed and spades were run to bring about this position:

Now the nine of spades was led from the table and East was helpless. No matter what East discarded, declarer would score the last three tricks for an overtrick. Try it!
