Angus Macauley used a 7-iron to shoot a hole in one on the 142-yard hole No. 2 at Candywood Golf Club.
The shot was witnessed by Jim Davis, Larry Fusco and Frank Massuri.
Thiel tops Raiders
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.
The Thiel College men’s basketball team defeated Mount Union on Saturday, 81-76, at the Buzz Ridl Classic.
Thiel (2-0) was keyed by seniors Chace McKinney (Kennedy Catholic) and Anthony Harvey (New Castle) who were named to the all-tournament team.
McKinney was 11-for-24 from the field during the event, including 3-of-6 from the three point line for an average of 17.5 points per game.
Harvey averaged 16.5 points per game, as he shot 11-for-18 from the field including 3-for-5 from the three-point line.
Nate Jacubec (Struthers) scored 18 points for Mount Union.

After 12 weeks, WFMJ’s Dana Balash’s record in Blitz Picks was 177-63, good for fourth place. His win total was incorrect in Friday’s edition.
Track meeting

The Greater Youngstown Track Officials Association will hold a mandatory state rules meeting for all coaches and officials in the Austintown Fitch Auditorium on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.
All coaches and officials must participate in one state rules meeting per year.

Anthony Noreen, coach and GM of the Youngstown Phantoms, will be the guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches meeting.
The group will meet at the Blue Wolf Catering Center Monday at noon.
Called to Serve wins Discovery Handicap
NEW YORK
Called to Serve beat the heavy favorite, Willy Beamin, by 43/4 lengths to win the $150,000 Discovery Handicap for 3-year-olds at Aqueduct on Saturday.
Called to Serve, the 7-2 second choice, surged to the lead in the deep stretch after Willy Beamin tired after setting a reasonable pace. Willy Beamin, the winner of the King’s Bishop at Saratoga in August, was the 3-5 favorite in the Discovery Handicap.
Joel Rosario was aboard for trainer Nick Canani as Called to Serve earned his third win in 10 starts. The time was 1:49.77 for the 1 1-8 miles on the fast track.
Called to Serve paid $9.60, $3.60 and $2.40. Willy Beamin returned $2.40 and $2.10, and Stephanoatsee paid $3.10 to show.
IOC criticizes India cricket for photo ban
LONDON
The International Olympic Committee has criticized Indian cricket authorities, accusing them of attacking press freedom by preventing photographers from covering games between India and England.
IOC Press Commission Chairman Kevan Gosper called on cricket’s governing body, the International Cricket Council, to intervene to allow news organizations free access to the cricket games between two of the world’s top teams.
Sun wins 3rd gold at Asian championships
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates
World record holder Sun Yang won a third gold at the Asian Swimming Championships Saturday, capping another day of Chinese dominance in the pool.
The four-time Olympic medalist won the 1,500-meter freestyle in a championship record time of 14:44.10, far short of his world record time but enough to easily win the race. He was among eight Chinese to take gold in nine races, including Olympic silver medalist Lu Ying who won the women’s 100 butterfly for her second gold.
Japan’s Kazuki Kohinata won the 200 breaststroke in a championship record time of 2:12.13 for his second gold, becoming only the fourth non-Chinese swimmer to win.
