Boardman officials find ‘Drano bomb’ in township yard

Township police and firefighters were called to 126 Lost Creek Drive Saturday evening for a potential bomb.

Firefighters said emergency dispatchers were called just before 8 p.m. and when fire crews arrived, they found a handmade explosive, or a so-called Drano bomb, that did not ignite because it was not pressurized.

The explosive was found in the front lawn and was taken by police for evidence.

3 arrested in Falls after house search

NEWTON FALLS

Three adults and one youth are in police custody after a search of 311 Marshall Ave. Police searched the house at about 8:45 p.m. Friday and found stolen property, multiple types of drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to a news release. The adults taken into custody were Marlayna S. Olenck, 38; Eric S. Garretson, 19; and Osmond R. Lemasters, 20.

Although the investigation is still pending, charges are ranging from possession of drugs, drug abuse, drug paraphernalia, underage consumption, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and tampering with evidence, police said. Garretson also had outstanding warrants related to probation violations and theft.

SilverSneakers event Dec. 3 at Jewish center

Youngstown

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, is offering a free “Lunch and Learn: About the SilverSneakers program” for those who are Medicare-eligible and are choosing a supplement plan before the end of the year.

The lunch-and-learn event will be at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 3.

Chris Wetzel, a representative from Healthways, will be guest speaker. He will explain the SilverSneakers program and how qualified seniors can enroll. SilverSneakers is a health, exercise and wellness program helping older adults live healthy, active lifestyles.

It allows qualifying seniors to sign up for a free membership at a participating fitness center. Insurance covers the membership cost. A light lunch will be served.
