POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in the city of Canfield, Girard and Liberty:

CANFIELD

Nov. 7

Correction: Enid Maldonado of Canfield was not arrested as reported in a police calls listing in the Nov. 7 edition of The Vindicator. The Vindicator incorrectly reported her name.

GIRARD

Nov. 9

Burglary: To a residence in the 200 block of East Broadway Avenue, from which $700 and a bottle of a prescription medication were stolen.

Criminal mischief: A Townsend Avenue woman said her former boyfriend broke her window.

Nov. 11

Domestic violence: A Girard girl, no age given, was charged with the crime after her sister alleged the teen had choked her during an argument about a pair of shoes. The girl also admitted having tossed a sweeper at her father when he tried to intervene, a report said.

Menacing: A South Davis Street woman alleged a neighbor threatened to beat her up when she confronted the neighbor’s daughter about the neighbor’s dog going after the accuser’s dog.

Assault: An East Wilson Avenue woman reported her son told her a 14-year-old boy had torn the accuser’s shirt and dumped beer on his back.

Menacing: A South Market Street man said a man and his girlfriend have been harassing and threatening him over a two-week period.

Nov. 12

Harassment: A Trumbull Avenue man reported a threatening voice-mail message about personal property.

Drugs: Police responded to a possible drug overdose in the 100 block of East Liberty Street, where they reportedly found drug paraphernalia associated with heroin use, a bag of suspected marijuana, suspected marijuana seeds and other contraband. A summons against a woman was pending.

Theft: Two metal delivery racks were taken from a parking lot in the 400 block of North State Street. The theft came to $1,350.

Theft: A $200 cellphone was removed from a locker at Girard High School.

Nov. 13

Theft by deception: A Joan Avenue man alleged his estranged wife wrote and deposited one of his checks for $4,700 without permission.

Theft: A Williams Court woman reported a $100 braided rug runner stolen from her fence.

Menacing: A West Second Street man said two neighbors tried to force open his front door.

Nov. 14

Theft: Miscellaneous tools, a tool bag and a mini refrigerator were missing from a residence in the 100 block of West Second Avenue.

LIBERTY

Nov. 8

Theft: A Hadley Avenue woman noticed a $400 amethyst and gold bracelet missing from her home.

Menacing: Police received information that a student at Liberty High School feared for her safety when four females gathered near a vehicle, possibly to fight with her, as the accuser was leaving the school.

Theft: A Middle Drive woman discovered $1,540 had been removed from a safe in a closet.

Breaking and entering: Roughly $2,000 worth of copper piping was taken during a break-in at a residence in the 400 block of Arbor Circle, though the owner found no signs of forced entry.

Theft: Someone stole 10 wheels and 10 brake rotors and drums from a pickup truck at Miller’s Towing Inc.

Nov. 9

Arrest: Herbert Cross, 39, of 1600 Motor Inn Drive, Girard, faced charges of assault and aggravated menacing after a manager with a Belmont Avenue restaurant alleged Cross, an employee, had pushed her face, then threatened to kill her and two other people. The argument reportedly started with an issue related to a paycheck and escalated when the manager confronted Cross about steaks he had in his pocket, a report showed.

Weapons/drugs: Pharron D. Nash, 19, of Akron faced two counts of carrying concealed weapons and one of marijuana possession after police had pulled him over near state Route 304 and said a knife, as well as a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun in a tote bag, were found. In addition, Nash, who also was wanted by Akron authorities on charges of fleeing and eluding police and disorderly conduct, had suspected marijuana, officers said.

Drugs: Authorities near state Route 11 and Interstate 80 pulled over 42-year-old Michael D. Porterfield and charged him with marijuana possession after saying a police dog had discovered 2 grams of suspected marijuana. Porterfield, of 328 Maryland St. NW, Warren, also was wanted on a warrant from Lordstown accusing him of failing to appear in court.

Identity fraud: A Hilliard, Ohio, woman learned someone without authorization had used her identity in an effort to obtain two prescriptions. A Belmont Avenue doctor’s office apparently received a call from someone claiming to be the accuser.

Drugs: Chakiel E. Crumsey, 19, of 1782 Atkinson Ave., Youngstown, and Domonique J. Lemon, 25, 17 Holly Drive, Liberty, were charged with one misdemeanor count each of trafficking in drugs and possession of drug-abuse instruments during a traffic stop in the 400 block of Ravine Drive. Two bags of suspected marijuana fell from Crumsey’s pant leg; in addition, two bags of suspected marijuana packaged for sale and a device commonly used to grind marijuana were found, police said.

Nov. 10

Drugs: A traffic stop on state Route 193 resulted in charges of drug abuse and driving under suspension against 41-year-old Keith E. Griffin, 420 Elruth Court, Girard, when, police said, 2.1 grams of suspected marijuana were found.

Nov. 11

Assault: Domenick M. DeFrank, 40, of 32 Florist Ave., Youngstown, faced a simple-assault charge after his estranged girlfriend, of Church Hill Road, alleged DeFrank had struck her face during an argument.

Theft: A $300 digital camera was stolen from a residence in the 500 block of Beverly Hills Drive.

Nov. 12

Counterfeit: A fake $20 bill was passed at McDonald’s, 3630 Belmont Ave.

Nov. 13

Child endangerment: A charge of operating a vehicle impaired was pending against a Campbell woman police stopped on Logan Way.
