A high school coach charged with videotaping nude boys in the locker room was ordered held on $2 million bond Thursday and told to stay away from boys.
Scott D. Studer, 47, was arraigned before Massillon Municipal Court Judge C. Roland Centrone. If he makes bond, the judge said Studer must stay away from victims, other boys and schools.
A preliminary hearing on the six felony counts, each carrying a possible eight-year prison term and $15,000 fine, was scheduled for Wednesday.
Studer’s lawyer, James Haupt, said his client maintained his innocence and that the charges are only allegations at this point. A woman answering a call to Studer’s home Thursday said there was no comment.
The freshman basketball coach at Jackson High School was arrested Wednesday after investigators searched his home and found nude images on a DVD, a laptop computer and a flash drive.
The materials were found during a search led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Police Chief Dave Zink of Jackson Township, near Canton, said there was no evidence that Studer had shared any videos.
“The cameras were placed at different times when he had access to the locker room,” Zink said. “For the past eight years, he sporadically brought these cameras to the school.”
Studer quit his jobs Wednesday as coach and school-building aide.
Shayne Rowlands, who has two sons who played basketball for Jackson High, said he was concerned whether any videos have been shared.
