Boardman Perkins evacuated this morning for fire

Perkins Restaurant on U.S. Route 224 closed for several hours after a Friday morning fire, but reopened about 11 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters were called about 5:30 a.m. for reports of smoke. The restaurant was evacuated and no one was injured, firefighters said.

The smoke seemed to be coming from a rooftop heating and cooling unit, according to reports. Damage was estimated at $8,000.
