Weathersfield to buy new truck

Weathersfield Township trustees approved the purchase of a new fire-department brush truck, which will be funded by a $118,000 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant from 2011.
The township’s share of the grant is $5,925.
The truck has been purchased through All State Peterbuilt and Quality Truck Body of Austintown at a cost of $136,837.
The additional money will come from the fire department’s capital funds, which the department has been setting aside for eight years to buy a new firetruck, clerk Fred Bobovnyk said.
The new truck is to be outfitted with a Hurst tool, a hydraulic rescue tool to assist in getting trapped victims from vehicles, and a night-time tower for night emergencies.
The truck is to replace a 1971 Jeep and a 1988 Suburban.
The township plans to bring to Mineral Ridge a reflective-traffic-sign replacement program that is mandated by the federal government. The five-year program already has replaced signs in the DeForest area. The actual cost of replacing signs in the Ridge area cannot yet be determined.
Trustee Steven Gerberry noted that any signs that are in good enough condition are being redone with the reflective coating.
Areas also on the list for upgrades to reflective traffic signs are: McKinley Heights in 2013; Hilltop, 2014; and West Park and Oakview and the rest of the township in 2015.
