Annual volunteer recognition

Sharon Regional Health System recognized volunteers at its annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon.

Debbie Garrett, hospice director, presented the Hospice Volunteer Service Awards to Rita Brown, Peggy Fiedler, Gayle Linden, Bud Nier, Maxie Phillips, Sandy Yarian, and Gracie Knapp.

Lynn Pyle, director of volunteers, presented the Janet L. Patterson Award for Volunteer of the Year to Angie Leonard. The annual award is given to the volunteer who exemplifies the enthusiasm, service and dedication to the volunteer program at Sharon Regional Health System.

Auxiliary Hours Awards were also presented to Dick Brandes, Marlene Gilliland, Wendy Karlovic, Marilyn Burbick, Domingas Chongolola, Cliff Sederland, Dorothy Kozarich, Charles Mershimer, Dave U’Halie, Dina Janoso, Jan Salsgiver, Laurie Chrobak, Joanne Bisson, Hedy Walker, Angie Leonard, Olive Thompson, Alyce Parrish, and Howard Ham.

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is offering specialized personal training for female cancer survivors. Personal trainer Shelia Cornell designs programs specific to individual clients, which include strengthening affected areas through a variety of exercises. Grant received

AUSTINTOWN

The D&E Counseling Center, a community behavioral health service provider to children, teens and families, has received a grant of $12,435 from The J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation.

The center, at 142 Javit Court, will use the grant to complete the remodeling of its Camp Challenge Social Hall on Wilkinson Avenue, which will include replacing floor joists and refinishing hardwood floors. During the summer, the center runs a six-week intensive outpatient program at the camp that serves approximately 45 children.

During the school year, center provides after-school services to 50 children from Youngstown City and Campbell elementary schools who have social/emotional problems that interfere with them achieving academically.
