Student-athletes were recognized for their efforts during Austintown Middle School’s annual fall sports ceremony Oct. 24.
The event, which was hosted by the school’s PTO, honored volleyball cross-country and football teams.
“It makes me feel good to host the event. I was an athlete when I was younger and I loved going to these kinds of things. I think sports teach students about teamwork, success, failure and I think it gives them self-confidence,” said PTO President Ellen DiFrancesco.
Coaches praised students for their persistence and hard work and encouraged them to continue to use those character traits in and out of school. Students received pins and certificates for their participation. Parents were thrilled to see their children on stage with their teammates. Jennifer Dolak, was proud of her daughter, Lauren, for her achievements on the cross country team.
“It was awesome. She worked so hard all season and it’s great to see the school come together,” Dolak said.
