Warren organization to sponsor program

WARREN

A free, six-week summer enrichment program through Inspiring Minds, a Warren nonprofit organization, will return to each of Warren’s K-8 schools this summer starting June 18.

It will run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday for students entering third through eighth grades.

The program includes continuing education, art, sports, community service, swimming lessons, field trips, daily meals and transportation options.

“Most students lose about two months of grade-level equivalency in mathematics over the summer months and many students also lose more than two months in reading achievement,” said Deryck Toles, Warren native and founder of Inspiring Minds. “Summer learning loss is something we, as a community, can and will prevent.”

There are 40 spots available at each school site. The first 20 students in grades three to five and the first 20 students in grades six to eight will be accepted at each location. Those interested should visit www.InspiringMindsYouth.org/SummerProgram to download the application form.

Partners in the program are Warren City Schools, Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority, Warren City Community Development, Catholic Charities, Trumbull Art Gallery, American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Warren Weed and Seed, Warren Police Athletic League, Neighborhood Associations, OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology and Youngstown State University Women’s Swim Team.
