Reds pitcher’s girlfriend questioned in Pa. heist

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police have questioned a woman they identified as the girlfriend of Cincinnati Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman in connection with a robbery at his downtown Pittsburgh hotel room, but have yet to charge anyone with the crime.

Police say the 26-year-old woman from Silver Spring, Md. reportedly met the pitcher two months ago and flew to Pittsburgh to be with him during the team’s just completed road trip.

Police were called to the Omni William Penn Hotel after 10 p.m. Tuesday after other guests heard the woman screaming and found her tied up with cloth napkins. The woman told police a man pretending to be a maintenance man tied her up and stole jewelry, clothes, a notebook computer, credit cards and identification from herself and Chapman.

The pitcher and the team aren’t commenting.
