Lee advances in national spelling contest

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Max Lee, who won the Vindicator Regional Spelling Bee to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, advanced this morning to the national competition’s fifth round by correctly spelling, “enthymeme.”

Max, 12, a Canfield Middle School seventh-grader, is the son of Dr. Tac and Linglan Liu Lee. Forty-one of the 50 semi-finalists advanced to the fifth round which is ongoing. The competition started with 278 contestants.

Those advancing to the finals compete tonight to determine a champion.
