Leadership Columbiana County had its 2012 graduation ceremony and dinner May 9 at the Salem Golf Club.

The nonprofit organization recognized 10 individuals who completed a nine-month program that builds leadership skills through classroom and hands-on experiences. Participants learned about various aspects of Columbiana County, such as industry, government, education, health care and education.

Participants also completed a class project, which was a healthy-kids fair in conjunction with the Calcutta YMCA.

The next leadership classes will begin Sept. 12, and applications are being accepted. For more information, go to www.leadershipcolumbianacounty.org.

FirstEnergy Solutions claims a decision made by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will allow AEP Ohio to block the vast majority of its retail electric customers from receiving lower electric prices available from suppliers in the competitive market.

FirstEnergy is urging the PUCO to require AEP Ohio to adopt competitive market-based pricing for both energy and capacity in AEP Ohio’s Electric Security Plan pending before the commission.
