Start your engines: Super Nats roar back to Salem

Staff report

SALEM

A Mahoning Valley tradition since 1987, the annual Steel Valley Super Nationals will return to Quaker City Motorsports Park — where it’s been since 2006 — June June 22 through June 24.

Food vendors and purveyors of car accessories will line the track, alongside 3,000 high-performance cars, trucks and motorcycles.

“It’s three days of hot rods, drag racing, muscle cars and more,” said Corey Ward of CORE promotions, which stages the event.

Ward of Austintown and Brian Caiazza of New Wilmington, Pa., bought the motor exhibit after 18 years at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

“It has a longstanding history in this area,” said Ward. “People plan their vacations around it. It’s a very special event.”

Ward has been a concert promoter for years, but he wanted to expand to new markets. He always enjoyed attending the Super Nats, and didn’t hesitate when the opportunity to buy the event arose.

The Steel Valley Super Nationals will open at 9 a.m. each day and close at 9 p.m. June 22, 10 p.m. June 23, and 5 p.m. June 24. Admission each day is $12 for spectators (free for children 12 and under). Participants pay $30, which includes entrance for the driver and one passenger for all three days, plus unlimited runs down the track.

Quaker City Motorsports Park is at 10359 W. South Range Road. For information, or to download a participant form, go to steelvalleysupernationals.com.
