4-K for Cancer, a non-profit group of about 30 bicyclists, is traveling 4,000 miles cross-country from Baltimore to San Francisco to raise awareness for cancer research. The ride is an activity of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

The group will stop for an overnight stay Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive. The bicyclists will arrive about 3 p.m., and a pot-luck dinner will be at 6.

After an early breakfast Saturday, the riders will head to Cleveland.

Officials investigate attempted arson

Police and fire officials are investigating a case of attempted arson.

Police were called to 96 Shadyside Drive at 9:45 p.m. Sunday. A resident of the house said a neighbor saw a man pour gasoline onto two vehicles in the driveway, a white Jeep Cherokee and a Chevy Malibu, according to reports.

The neighbor said she chased the suspect away, and there was a smell similar to gasoline on both vehicles, police said.

The owners of the vehicles said that a green Jeep Cherokee caught fire in the driveway about 1:40 a.m. Friday and that Boardman firefighters were called and extinguished the fire.

Woman reports being hit by car

WARREN

A 19-year-old Comstock Avenue Northwest woman reported that she was injured late Saturday when an unidentified person drove a car over the curb and hit her with an automobile on Robert Avenue Northwest.

The victim, who went to the hospital for treatment, reported that she and friends were standing on the sidewalk in front of an apartment building at 1170 Robert at 11:32 p.m., when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle then backed up and fled, police said, adding that the victim appeared to have minor injuries.

Man treated after baseball-bat attack

WARREN

A 24-year-old Transylvania Avenue Southwest man had to have 24 staples to close a head wound and had swelling and bruising of both shoulder blades after he was attacked with a baseball bat in a house on Wick Street Southeast on Saturday.

The victim said he was playing video games about 11 p.m. with the suspect, who went upstairs and got the bat because people in the house were being noisy.

After being hit several times in the head and back, the victim fled and went to the hospital, police said. The victim also had swelling and bruising to his arm and ankle.
