Warren police probe motorcycle mishaps

Richard A. Loychick, 43, of Adelaide Avenue Southeast died Saturday after his motorcycle crashed into a street sign and utility pole a short distance from his home.

Warren police said Loychick was traveling south on Adelaide near Youngstown Road, about a block from home, when his motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve, crossing the center line, leaving the roadway and hitting a traffic sign and then a large utility pole near Ada Street.

Loychick, who was wearing a helmet, was dead at the scene near the utility pole, while the motorcycle proceeded further south and into a front yard on the other side of the intersection.

The Trumbull County Coroner’s office said Loychick died from multiple blunt traumatic injuries.

Police say they do not know how fast Loychick was traveling during the 4:47 p.m. crash. Loychick was riding a 1991 Suzuki.

Warren police also investigated an accident Friday night on West Market Street near York Avenue Northwest that injured two passengers on a motorcycle, which collided with a car.

Police said the driver, Bryce K. Edwards, 26, of Peerless Street, Leavittsburg, suffered a cut to his head. His passenger, Johnny H. Thomas Jr., 52, of Altura Drive in Howland, suffered a broken leg and abrasions. Both were treated at Warren hospitals.

The driver of the car, Patrolman Terrence Eddington, who was off-duty, told police the motorcycle was traveling eastbound, “weaving between lanes” and finally crossed the center line and collided with the car. Eddington and his two passengers were not injured.

Police issued a license suspension for Edwards after he refused to allow a sample of his blood to be taken. Neither man on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet in the 10:44 p.m. crash.
