Sobriety checkpoint nets felony charges

Four felony charges were filed as the result of a sobriety checkpoint Saturday into early Sunday in Boardman operated by the Mahoning Valley Operating a Vehicle Impaired Task Force.

The charges were for possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing police business, according to a task-force report. There were 517 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint on Market Street near Hillman Street between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

There also were six charges of operating a vehicle intoxicated, six charges of driving under suspension, two for no operator’s license, two seat-belt violations, four possession of marijuana, one failure to use turn signal, two for underage possession of alcohol, one for no motorcycle endorsement and four nontraffic- related misdemeanor charges, according to the report.
