A sign of displeasure
A sign of displeasure
I Love My Library but ... $18,905 for an electronic sign at the Main Public Library? This is taxpayers’ money, not a grant, that has paid for this sign. Is this the same library system that not too long was closing on certain days and cutting back, and asking taxpayers to pass a levy? Now, without even a vote by trustees, this money is spent on a sign to inform people of “library closings and provide the time and temperature.”
The justification “is that people will be better informed about what’s going on and what they can participate in.” The media we have now is fully capable of doing that. The Vindicator is a source of information that reaches many more people than those at that “busy” intersection. TV, radio, and, of course, the library’s own wonderful website are excellent sources of that information.
I understand the intent of the sign, but I simply cannot accept the cost. Lately there has been so much news about distracted driving-we need to be watching the traffic signals and looking left and right and left again before pulling out into traffic rather than reading this $18,905 sign.
