Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its warehouse, 2805 Salt Springs Road.
Refreshments and a tour will be available.
Food bank board of directors and staff will thank those who made the Mahoning Valley No. 1 in the Walmart Foundation’s Fighting Hunger Together Facebook challenge.
“The support of this community brought $1 million to the Mahoning Valley through the Fighting Hunger Together campaign,” said Mike Iberis, executive director of Second Harvest. “The food bank was awarded a grant in the amount of $715,000 that will be used to build capacity to increase the number of people served and amount of food distributed. We are grateful to those who voted every day to win this challenge for the Mahoning Valley.”
Second Harvest distributes food to 153 hunger- relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. These organizations include church pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs.
