U. of Pitt appoints law-school dean

Youngstown native William M. Carter Jr. has been appointed the dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, effective July 1.

Carter, a son of William M. and Jill Carter and Yvonne Carter, is a law professor at Temple University Beasley School of Law and has served on the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

Carter earned his law degree with high honors from Case, where he also was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as associate editor of the Case Western Reserve University Law Review.

He previously served as a litigation associate in the Washington, D.C., offices of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey and Ropes & Gray.

Carter has taught constitutional law, civil procedure, political and civil rights and litigation.

He earned his bachelor’s degree at Bowling Green State University.
