GM Lordstown seeking to fill temporary- worker pool

General Motors Co. has begun posting positions in an attempt to rebuild its temporary-worker pool after converting 129 temporary workers to full-time employees in the past month.

Former UAW 1112 President Jim Graham said the additional hiring at the plant was because the Chevrolet Cruze was selling very well, which generated the need for more workers. GM announced the temporary workers would become full time by May 14.

Any time the plant is able to add workers, it’s good for the workers, good for the company and good for the community, said Tom Mock, plant spokesman for GM Lordstown, at the time the permanent hires were announced.

It is unknown at this time when or how many temporary workers will be hired.

The company is seeking applicants for general- assembler positions for a future hiring pool. Resumes will be accepted through Friday. Resumes can be mailed to the plant.

The job includes performing bench, floor or conveyor assembly work.
