The 2012 History Day theme was “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.” More than 500 students participated in the state-level competition. Middle- and high-school students receiving honors at the state event include:
Senior Individual Exhibit Honorable Mention: Christina Leckfor from Hubbard High School for “R.M.S. Titanic.”
Senior Individual Performance National Finalist: Mike Konczal from Hubbard High School for “Fidel Castro.”
Junior Individual Website National Alternate: Lilly Sweitzer from Christian Home Educators Co-Op for “Walter Freeman: Angel of Mercy or Medical Monster?”

The Ohio Local History Alliance Award was presented to Jason Green-Smith, James Tibbs and Matthew Lee from Summit Academy for their exhibit “Union Revolution in Youngstown.”
National finalists from the state competition are eligible to compete at National History Day, June 10-14, at the University of Maryland.
State alternates will attend the national event if either of the finalists is unable to go. This year, Ohio is represented by 64 students participating in 36 projects, two in each of the 18 junior and senior categories.
“History Day involves so many people working together — students, teachers, parents, community members who serve as judges,” said Burt Logan, executive director and CEO of the Ohio Historical Society. “The year’s entries were exceptional and everyone who participated should be proud of the work they have done.”
National History Day in Ohio is co-sponsored by the Ohio Historical Society and funded in part by contributions from Cargill, The Toledo Community Foundation, Porter Wright, The Junior League of Columbus and The Motorists Insurance Group Foundation.
