Bicycling Type Rider seeks tales about you

It’s not every day when someone asks you to sit down and write about yourself.

But today at The Lemon Grove, you’ll have the chance to do just that when poet Maya Stein brings her Type Rider tour to Youngstown.

When Stein arrives at the cafe around noon, she’ll invite members of the public to sit at the keys and type about themselves.

The words that people write today will become part of Stein’s latest work, a collaborative piece of writing from her trip.

The stop in Youngstown is part of her trek from Amherst, Mass., to Milwaukee, the birthplace of the typewriter, with her typewriter on a trailer behind her bicycle.

Stein is keeping a daily blog of her trip at www.type-rider.com.

“I love the idea of slowing down enough to really see where I am, to go at a pace that allows for a deeper engagement with my environment,” Stein wrote on her blog about why she’s making this trip.

Stein is a Youngstown-area native. She graduated from Brookfield High School in 1982.
