Rotary, Interact clubs clean up park
Every year since its creation in 2006, members of the Rotary Club of Austintown, along with Rotary Interact members from Fitch High School, do a clean-up of the Celebration Grove at Austintown Township Park on Kirk Road. The tradition continued this year.
Out of the 100 trees planted in 2006, only one had to be replaced, which is a superb record. The grove features 100 red maple, river birch and flowering pear trees planted in a section of the park near Kirk Road. They were planted as a tribute to loved ones or friends and were purchased by individuals of the community.
Chopping, cutting, weeding and feeding has been the ritual and is something the Rotary Club and community should be very proud of. Tony Cebriak, the original Committee Chairman was on hand to instruct, lead work and made sure the project was completed.
Before moving on to the Celebration Grove, the group also did Roadside clean-up of a mile stretch on Kirk Road, which they do on a regular basis.
