Pa. man convicted of endangerment in tot overdose

OAKDALE, Pa. (AP) — A jury says a western Pennsylvania man is guilty of endangerment in the death of his girlfriend’s daughter after the toddler ingested oxycodone at his home.

The jury couldn’t reach a decision on an involuntary manslaughter charge Thursday in the trial of 27-year-old Sean Czambel.

Sixteen-month-old Cailin Stiffler died in January 2008 after overdosing on the pain drug. Allegheny County investigators say they believe the girl ingested a pill that had been left in the pocket of Czambel’s pajamas on the bed inside his Oakdale home.

Prosecutors have 30 days to decide if they’ll bring the manslaughter case against Czambel again.

Stiffler’s mother, Rachel Bellaire, was found not guilty of endangerment in a separate non-jury trial Thursday.
