The Canfield Village Middle School’s fifth- and sixth-grade choirs presented their annual Spring Concert May 8 at the Canfield High School.

Both choirs were under the direction of Stephanie Summers and were accompanied on piano by Jodine Pilmer, drums by Stephen Ley and bass by Ben Cervone.

In a first for Summers, the concert had a theme: The Beatles.

“Welcome to our spring concert. In a first for me, this is a theme concert. I chose The Beatles as the theme because we could choose from a vast array of music, from ballads to up-tempos. Their early work differs greatly from their later work as they matured. They left us a lot to choose from,” Summers said as she welcomed the auditorium filled with family and friends.

The sixth-grade choir took the stage first and started with “Twist and Shout.” They continued with “Blackbird” and finished with “When I’m Sixty-Four.”

Before each song, sixth-grade student narrators introduced the selection and gave a small bit of history about the song.

The fifth-grade choir kicked off its portion of the concert with “Here Comes the Sun.” They then sang “Yellow Submarine,” ending it with a loud ‘ahoy!’ The choir then closed the show with the appropriately titled “Good Night.”
