Who doesn’t like being told how much they are appreciated?

The teachers at Hilltop Elementary School got the message loud and clear, as the school hosted its annual Teacher Appreciation Day with a special luncheon May 10.

PTO volunteers Jessica Russell, Joleen Lewis and Chris Russo organized the luncheon for the teachers, with the PTO providing the main dishes and numerous PTO members donating side dishes, salads, desserts and beverages.

The tables in the library were turned into springtime gardens with yellow tablecloths, flower arrangements as centerpieces and mints with the words “thank you” printed on the package.

At each place setting was a small bag of M&Ms with a special message from the students.

A card was attached to the bag of candies which stated the green candies represented the students’ appreciation, blue represented the patience the teachers show and orange represented the warmth the teachers show with their caring smiles. Yellow was for making the students smile and red represented how the teacher had touched the students’ lives.

The card concluded with the words ‘Thank you for being my M&M – magnificent and marvelous teacher.’

As an added bonus, if a teacher chose a plate with a smiley face on the bottom of it, he or she won a centerpiece.

The PTO had one last special surprise for the teachers.

As a special gift to the teachers, PTO parent volunteers took over lunch and recess duty for the day so the teachers could have an entire hour to enjoy themselves, and each other’s company, at the luncheon.
