Free child car seat checks available

In a study about child restraint systems, approximately 73 percent of car seats showed at least one critical misuse, according to Safe Kids USA. To reduce this number and promote child passenger safety, technicians from Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley and Safe Kids Mahoning Valley will provide free car seat check Saturday.

The checks will be done at Sweeney Chevrolet at 8010 Market St. in Boardman from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Child restraints and seat belts, when installed and used properly, can prevent injuries and save lives,” explains Gia Ramsey, injury prevention specialist at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. “Having a securely installed car seat is a great first step towards keeping your kids safe while in the car.”
