Boy Scout Troop 25 leaders honored

Canfield’s Boy Scout Troop 25 was busy during April and two of its leaders were honored by the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Seven members of the troop participated in this year’s 30th annual Mill Creek MetroParks Earth Day Cleanup by cleaning along the roadside and into the woods on both sides of the road along West Golf Drive from Shields Road to Route 224 in the park.

The weekend of April 21 had two different things going on for members of the troop. The Scouts spent the weekend camping out and participating at the BTM Clays facility, learning shotgun shooting.

Also on April 21, two leaders of the troop were recognized with special awards at the Greater Western Reserve Boy Scout Council’s Recognition Event. Mike Kupec received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor a Boy Scout Council can award an individual for service to youth and scouting over a period of time.

John Wolboldt was recognized with the National Eagle Scout Association’s Outstanding Eagle Scout Award for his service to the Canfield community with many different organizations. Wolboldt is the first recipient of the Greater Western Reserve Council to receive this award.

Troop 25’s upcoming calendar includes a backpacking and campout weekend at Minister Creek, Pa., the Canfield Memorial Day Parade in May, a Survival Camp, the Canfield Fourth of July Parade, Summer Camp at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation and a visit to the Gettysburg Historic Battlefield and Historic Hike in Gettysburg.

Troop 25 meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of Canfield United Methodist Church at 27 S. Broad St. in Canfield. For more information, contact the Scoutmaster Kevin Prus, Sr. at 330-533-5616.
