Both fires at Shenango China arson, New Castle officials say
NEW CASTLE, Pa.
A fire at the old Shenango China plant on Glass Street was arson, just like one there last June, according to the city fire department.
The 3 p.m. blaze brought out fire departments from surrounding townships to help, the department said.
No one was injured, and the blaze was brought under control in about an hour.
A spokesman for the fire department said the city fire marshal is investigating.
There is no power to the building, which is empty except for a ceramic business in the back, the spokesman said.
That and the fact that the fire was intensely hot and smoky in a short time points to arson, the spokesman said.
Part of the building is still intact. The ceramic business was not affected.
