Police: Woman, 69, man, 85, dead in murder-suicide

WATSONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — State police say a 69-year-old northeastern Pennsylvania woman moving out of her boyfriend’s house was shot dead by the 85-year-old man, who then turned the gun on himself.

Investigators say Earl Beck killed Joann Mitchel on Tuesday inside the Watsontown, Northumberland County home they had shared.

Police say Mitchel was in the process of moving out when she was killed Tuesday afternoon. Movers discovered their bodies.

Neighbors said the couple had been together for 30 years but weren’t married. Mitchel had rented an apartment nearby earlier this month.
