The YWCA of Youngstown’s fifth annual Women’s Leadership Conference is June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the YWCA at 25 W. Rayen Ave. The keynote address, “Stressed Spelled Backwards is Desserts: De-Stress with Humor,” will be given by Shirley Lisk. Alzheimer’s symposium

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter’s annual Beverly A. Chiron Education Symposium is June 5 at Hartville Kitchen, 1015 Edison St., NW, Hartville, Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. The program ends at 4:30 p.m.

Mobile dental service receives $15,000

YOUNGSTOWN

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Mahoning Valley and Western Pennsylvania recently presented the Humility of Mary Health Partners Foundation with $15,000 to provide educational and clinical support for Smile Station, HMHP’s school-based mobile dental service. Smile Station provides comprehensive oral health services to low-income children in schools and Head Start programs in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

SRHS accreditation

SHARON, PA.

Sharon Regional Health System has been granted AABB, which previously stood for the American Association of Blood Banks, accreditation for its blood transfusion services. Accreditation followed a volunteer on-site assessment by AABB assessors and established that the level of technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by the AABB.

A team of psychiatrists, residents, nurses and researchers in The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry is seeking volunteers to participate in the International Study to Predict Optimized Treatment of Depression (i-SPOT-d), Participants receive one of three U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved anti-depressants, and OSU team members evaluate their effectiveness. UPMC Center of Excellence recertified

GREENVILLE, PA.

The UPMC Horizon Minimally Invasive Bariatric and General Surgery Center has been recertified as a Center of Excellence within Health America/Health Assurance’s network of hospital providers in Pennsylvania and Ohio through the end of 2012.

Sharon cancer center receives $110,000 gift

SHARON, PA.

The Sharon Regional Health System Auxiliary recently hosted the 2012 Charity Ball wrap-up luncheon where it presented a check for $110,000 as part of a three-year pledge for the expansion and renovation of Sharon Regional’s Cancer Care Center on Highland Road in Hermitage.
