Ohio man sentenced to death in triple stabbing

COLUMBUS (AP) — A three-judge panel has formally issued a death sentence for an Ohio man who pleaded guilty to killing a woman he lived with and her two children on Thanksgiving Day in 2010.

The Columbus Dispatch reports 38-year-old Caron Montgomery of Columbus on Tuesday received a life sentence for killing the woman and two death sentences for killing the children.

The victims’ relatives took turns thanking the judges for the sentences at Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

Montgomery had pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and other charges in the slayings of Tia Hendricks and her 2- and 10-year-old children. They were stabbed to death inside Hendricks’ Columbus apartment.

Montgomery declined to speak during Tuesday’s sentencing. The Ohio public defender’s office will handle his appeal.
