R. Scott Evans, vice president for Institutional Advancement at Lake Erie College, who has helped raise $100 million over a 19-year development career, has been chosen vice president for University Advancement at Youngstown State University.

He will take the position July 23 and will earn $164,000 annually.

YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson said Evans was selected after a national search because of his vast experience and success in higher-education fund- raising in Northeast Ohio, particularly at Lake Erie College in Painesville, and at the Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown.

“Scott brings to YSU the knowledge and the hands-on fundraising background to help take our development and alumni activities to the next level,” Anderson said. “Building strong, lasting relationships with our donors and alumni is important to ensuring the future success of the university, and we look forward to Scott leading those efforts.”

As vice president for University Advancement at YSU, Evans will oversee the Office of University Development and the Office of Alumni and Events Management.

Evans replaces George McCloud, who left the position in July 2010.

“I am excited to join the YSU family,” Evans said. “President Anderson has great vision, and I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, trustees, alumni and friends of the university to achieve our goals together.”

Evans, who earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Malone College and a master’s degree in accounting from Kent State University, became vice president for Institutional Advancement at Lake Erie College in 2006.

He oversees fundraising, government relations, marketing, public relations and alumni relations.

He helped raise $40 million in his six years at the college.
